MTV Asia Awards to raise funds for the victims of the Myanmar and China disasters.
June 23, 2008MTV Asia will be dedicating its coming MTV Asia Awards to raise funds for the twin disasters in Myanmar and China. Leveraging on the pan regional music awards show’s massive popularity, MTV will be roping the talents and who’s who in the music & movie industry attending the star-studded event to appeal to the audience across Asia to contribute to the cause. Hosted by Jared Leto, 30 Seconds To Mars, The 2008 MTV Asia Awards will be broadcasted to over 291 million homes across the region. Portions of the programming will be carried on MTV channels worldwide, reaching more than a billion viewers across 162 countries.
All proceeds will go to International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Asia Relief Fund.
"We are delighted to be associated with the forthcoming MTV awards as this will provide an excellent opportunity to be able link up with the commitment and enthusiasm of young people throughout Asia. The disasters in Myanmar and China have been a huge tragedy for the millions of people directly affected, but the Red Cross has already been able to do a lot to help them from the very first hours. Now the recovery work is beginning, and we all have a role to play in helping so many families and communities to re-build their lives and their hopes for a better future." says Alistair Henley, head of the Asia Pacific office, IFRC.
The 2008 MTV Asia Awards to be held on August 2, will be a night of music celebration, love and hope as celebrities and fans alike put their best foot forward to contribute to the tragedy. Donations can be pledged by logging on to www.ifrc.org.
